meetings on the 4th Tues of each month

The Parish Council serves as an advisory body to the Pastor in the planning, organization and direction of the activities of the parish. It works to foster the Catholic life of the whole parish community. The council consists of representatives of the various parish ministries, five at large members and parish staff members. Members other than staff members serve for three years. The council also establishes ad hoc committees to work on particular issues; these committees are made up of council members and parishioners.

Meetings for 2007/2008 are on the fourth Tuesday of the month. The meetings are open to the parish and are announced in the Parish Bulletin for the two weeks prior to the meeting. Meetings this year open and close with a period of prayer and reflection which includes a scripture reading. Meeting notes are distributed at the church entrance a week or two after each meeting.

Parish councils were fostered by Vatican II which saw a shift away from the individual paradigm of life in the Church, i.e. me and God, to one that balances the communal dimension of the Church with the individual dimension and which sees the parish reaching beyond the local community to the broader world and church. Parish councils are intended to foster and provide a structure for greater participation of the laity in the pastoral work and life of the local Catholic parish.

It is the desire of the Parish Council to promote a sense of community and spirituality amongst the members of our parish family. That sense of community and participation and shared life of prayer, love and faith is developed within the parish council itself as it works together in its ministry to serve the larger parish. Council members have a strong desire to serve the parish in every way that will further our family union in Christ. Knowing that the strength of the parish comes from the diversity and the generous giving of the many skills of all our parishioners, the council seeks to promote participation at all levels. Council members welcome feedback and ideas from parishioners.

If you would like to serve on the parish council or if you have ideas and suggestions for the council to consider, contact Ted Sohn, council president, at 631-4596 or email him at sohnpt@msn.com. You can also leave a suggestion in the suggestion box on this website. The council also has a "Time and Talent Survey" where people can indicate ways in which they would be willing to be of service to the parish. The survey is available by clicking the link to the left, or at the church entrance.
