Rites of Christian Initiation:

According to Ms. Nelson, each year there are a few individuals from the Irvington and Tarrytown area that make the decision to convert to Catholicism.  Prospective candidates are required to complete an application form.  Those candidates, are subsequently, interviewed by Ms. Nelson and others to determine the basis for their decision.  Candidates accepted for this program are required to meet weekly from September until the Easter vigil learning about the Catholic Church and its history.  These classes are typically facilitated by Dr. Irene Sullivan and Netta Sloboda, who use the Sunday Missal to examine and explain the readings, as well as apply those readings to our life.  The typical period for completing this course of instruction requires one to two years of study depending upon the individual's religious background and training.
